Caves of Hercules

The Hercules Caves, located on the Moroccan Atlantic coast near Cape Spartel, is a fascinating archaeological site that attracts many visitors every year. The caves are known for their intriguing history, but also for their mystical atmosphere and breathtaking rock formations.

According to legend, the Greek hero Hercules stopped at the Hercules Caves after completing one of his famous tasks, that of retrieving the golden apples from the Hesperides garden. This story adds to the mystique of the cave, which is also considered a sacred place by the locals.

The natural light that seeps in through the cave entrance helps to create a mystical and romantic atmosphere inside the cave. Visitors can walk through the different chambers of the cave, admire the impressive stalactites and stalagmites and imagine the stories and legends that may have taken place here.

In addition to its history and mystical atmosphere, the Hercules Caves also offer a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean. A natural opening in the cave provides a view of the turquoise ocean waves and the nearby rocks and beaches. Visitors can take a stone staircase to these beaches, where they can swim, walk or simply enjoy the scenery.

Prices for access to the Hercules Caves

There is a charge to enter the Hercules Caves.

First, you arrive at a pleasant square with cafes offering a beautiful view. In the square, souvenir sellers sell their wares, and then you enter the cave, for which it is necessary to pay an entrance fee of Dhs 60 per person if you are a foreign tourist, or Dhs 10 per person for Moroccan citizens (on presentation of the national card).

It is important to note that the Hercules Caves are a protected site and that environmental protection rules are in force to preserve the caves and their natural environment. It is therefore important to respect these rules by not leaving any rubbish behind and by not touching or disturbing the fauna and flora.
